CPP General Body meeting 19 May 2009

RESOLUTION

The meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party expresses its deep gratitude to the people of the country for the clear mandate, which the Party received in the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections. In all humility the CPP takes note of the onerous responsibility placed on the party to fulfill the rising hopes and aspirations of the common man. The CPP reiterates that it would strive to fulfill the promises made in the Party's manifesto. The verdict of the voter in 2009 is visibly and strongly different from the mandate in previous elections during a decade and half. The people of India have given a mandate for secularism and inclusive growth. It is a call for a Party with a national outlook to address the challenges of a nation as diverse and unique as India, with sensitivity to regional and local aspirations.

The mandate clearly expresses faith in the Prime Ministership of Dr. Manmohan Singh. It is a verdict for continuance of the policies, programmes, schemes and projects initiated and implemented by the Congress led UPA Government. It has become a watershed verdict for the welfare of the Aam Admi whose well-being must be the primary focus in a country experiencing high economic growth. The Indian National Congress respects and views this extraordinary support received from the people across the country and from all sections of the society. The CPP resolves to hold the trust and confidence reposed in the party by the people of India in a responsible and confident manner and fulfill their aspirations for a better life and a better society.
