Press Briefing Tuesday, 24 November 2009
Shri Abhishek Singhvi addressed the media today.
Shri Singhvi said that the Liberhan report once
again shows the true character, the true
identity and the true thinking of the BJP and
that is more important than the nitty-gritty of
the fact and that character, that identity and
that thinking is nasty, brutish and rabid. It
divides and by dividing, it tries to rule. So it
does exactly what our erstwhile Imperial masters
used to do which we rightly condemn. For all the
delay, for the entire long wait and nobody has
ever justified the long delay in the coming of
the report. The real bottom line and the real
essence is the content of the report. Now we
have it all in black and white. And what we have
is a sad, sordid, sorry and saddening saga of
brazen cheap politics. It is truly a sad,
sordid, sorry and saddening saga of cheap
politics. Of cheap politics, which does not
care, life, liberty or property of innocent
‘aam-aadmi and is done purely for selfish self
interest, for power and for politics.
Shri Singhvi said that this has all the elements
of a dark sinister negative film only this is
horribly true unlike a film. It cannot be wished
away by technical argument, by delay arguments
and by procedural arguments. Look at the
elements. There is a conspiracy; there is a
conspiracy between those several parts which go
by the pseudo name the wrong name of the ‘parivar’.
There is a ‘rath-yatra’ to promote that
conspiracy; there is the purchase of implements
on the 6th of December. It is in the hands of
the people standing there. There is the movement
across India to converge at a fixed time, a
fixed place at Ayodhya on a certain date. There
are implements, there are food packets. There is
full knowledge of those supposedly eminent
leaders standing a few meters away. They are
exhorting and dancing with joy and thereafter
not having the courage of their convictions.
They talk of the saddest moments of their life.
At least some of them who have the wrong courage
of their wrong convictions also talk of the
happiest moments of their life. They then shed
crocodile tears. It has been proved it is a
party of hypocrates; it is a party of dishonest,
power hungry position seekers. They can do
anything for power. We wish that we had a
communal violence bill at that time. Such
actions and such parties under that bill, which
is on our agenda. These are the people who
already stand condemned at the bar of public
opinion twenty years ago. They stand condemned
because they were captured by candid camera,
dancing with joy. The rest is only a matter of
detail.
On the question of the reaction of the Congress
party after the report was tabled in the
Parliament despite the fact that there was a
National Integration Council in 1992 that were
empowered to take a decision and the fact that
the Congress party was in power at that time,
Shri Singhvi said that you are mixing up the
stand of the accused who are trying to deflect
attention. Here is a long list of principal
accused. The principal accused belong to a
political party and to various sub groups of
that political party (a) who were present a few
meters away (b) who were governing Uttar Pradesh
(c) who were in-charge of law and order which
constitutionally and legally is exclusively the
obligation of the Uttar Pradesh Government. The
crucial issue is this. However, it is these very
people who deflect to the Central Government.
You omit to say that the Central Government had
absolutely no locus and no power to deal with
the law and order on the spot but importantly
you ignore the fact that no less than the
Hon’ble Supreme Court like the entire nation and
like the Central Government was misled by the
affidavit of Kalyan Singh which in bold terms
said that he undertakes and ensures that no
untoward incident happens. When the body like
Hon’ble Supreme Court was given a solemn
affirmation by BJP Chief Minister, to point
finger is nothing but digression and deflection.
It means you are not serious about punishing the
true accused.
Shri Singhvi further said that the report of
Commission of Enquiry is basis for further
investigation by the police. It can become the
basis for further investigation. If there are
any new details emerging from that further
investigation, then supplementary charge sheets
can be filed and will be filed and that is the
only way the law proceeds. The moment the report
is investigated by the police forces, further
action would be taken.
