Press Briefing Monday, 20 July 2009
Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi addressed the media
today.
Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the bell
tolls for the UP Chief Minister. The fear, the
frustration and the hypocrisy is writ large on
the actions and the reactions of the UP Chief
Minister and the BSP Government in their daily
deeds and statements. They are completely
unsettled by the language and by the style and
by the conduct of Shri Rahul Gandhi who speaks
the language of development, pro-poor policies
and the language of good governance. These are
the words and adjectives which the UP Chief
Minister does not and cannot understand. If they
do not understand and realize this, they are
sure to suffer the huge anger of the aam-aadmi
of Uttar Pradesh. The anger of the aam-aadmi of
Uttar Pradesh is reeling under mis-governance,
no law and order, no power and no
industrialization is evident everywhere. Ms.
Mayawati is giving figures but does she tell you
that in the last 12-15 years less than 600 or
610 Mega watts has been added in Uttar Pradesh.
What about UP‘s own contribution. Does she tell
you that the Bahujan Samaj Party has become
synonymous with the Ramakant Yadavs the Anna
Shuklas, Mukhtar Ansaris; who are not only
history-sheeters but accused in many cases
serving for serious crimes. Another element in
that continuous chain has seen a new addition
just a few days ago, Intzar Ahmed Abdi – one of
the principal accused involved in the
hooliganism, vandalism and arson last week - has
been appointed the Chairman of the State Sugar
Corporation with the rank of a Minister of
State.
Dr. Singhvi said that there is obviously an
attempt to send a message to the State
Administration and to the State Police. And then
we have the joke of referring to the so-called
CID of the State. This is nothing but an
intended cover-up. This is nothing but an
intended exercise to legitimize an illegality to
provide a validation. Ms Mayawati cannot begin
to understand that the true Yuvraj are those who
live in the hearts and minds of the people in a
democracy because it is only by making a place
in the heart and the mind, in a democracy that
we can claim to be a democratic ‘Yuvraj’ and not
by going on a megalomaniac spree of building
personal statues because personal statues do not
make you a ‘Maharani’. But being in the hearts
and minds of the people does make you a ‘Yuvraj’.
Unless the sooner the UP Government and Ms.
Mayawati realize this basic truth of Indian
democracy and realize that they cannot continue
to fool all the people all the time on all the
issues. Unless Ms. Mayawati stops practicing the
politics of personal vendetta, personal glory
and a personal power, she will neither see the
writing on the wall and she will not notice when
the tsunami of the people’s power sweeps her
office.
To a further question with regard to the legal
fight between the two Ambani brothers, Dr.
Singhvi said that there is absolutely nothing
for him to say apart from what has already been
said by the concerned Minister. The matter is
already subjudice in the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
It was heard today as well. It is entirely
between the two entities in which the Government
is also putting its point of view. The Hon’ble
Court will decide the matter. There is no
question for him to say anything at all. The
Congress party is not going to comment on such
matters.
On the question of Pakistan and India on
terrorism, Dr. Singhvi said that this has been
the achievement of the Government of India that
the Pakistan Government has admitted for the
first time that their territory was used by the
terrorists for carrying out their activities.
This is not a small achievement. Even Hillary
Clinton, Secretary of State of US has said
yesterday that there is a syndicate of terror in
Pakistan and she also assured of taking
appropriate steps.
To a further question over the statement of Shri
Advani, Dr. Singhvi said that the BJP had done
nothing during their tenure of 5 years and he
raised a question to Mr. Advani as to what their
Government had done to curb the terrorism. Dr.
Singhvi further said that Shri Advani is
trivializing the matter.
